Ministries - Ecumenical Affairs

The Department of Ecumenical Affairs and Studies supports the work of the Anglican Consultative Council, whose aims include:

To encourage and guide Anglican participation in the ecumenical movement and the ecumenical organisations, to co-operate with the World Council of Churches and the world confessional bodies on behalf of the Anglican Communion, and to make arrangements for the conduct of pan-Anglican conversations with the Roman Catholic Church, the Orthodox churches, and other churches. (ACC Constitution 2(f))

In this capacity, the Department staffs and services all bilateral ecumenical conversations at the global level. The Department also acts on behalf of the Communion in many multi-lateral contexts, such as the World Council of Churches. …More

The Third Anglican – Lutheran International Commission (ALIC) held its third meeting at Chennai, India, between 28 April and 5 May 2008, under the co-chairmanship of the Most Reverend Fred Hiltz, Primate of Canada, and of Reverend Dr. Cameron Harder, Lutheran Theological Seminary, Saskatoon, Canada, in the absence of Bishop Thomas Nyiwé, Cameroon, who was unable to attend.

The Anglican - Old Catholic International Co-ordinating Council (AOCICC) met in Schloss Beuggen, Germany, from 14 to 18 April 2008. The Council welcomed the new Old Catholic Co-chair, the Rt Revd Joachim Vobbe (who also served as the Co-chair from 1998 to 2003), and the new Old Catholic member, the Revd Henriette Crüwell, both appointed by the Old Catholic International Bishops’ Conference (IBC).

The third Inter-Anglican Theological and Doctrinal Commission has published its final report Communion, Conflict and Hope: the Kuala Lumpur Report. Since the 1998 Lambeth Conference, Anglicans have had reason to focus attention on the nature of their Communion and on questions about how the Church’s unity can be sustained during times of intense disagreement.

“Now is the time to re-kindle the work of this Commission.” This statement from the Rt Revd Musonda T S Mwamba, Bishop of Botswana, set the tone for the first meeting of the All Africa Anglican – Lutheran Commission (AAALC) since 2001. The Commission met 12-14 December 2007, in Johannesburg, South Africa, with the Lutheran side serving as hosts.
