Funeral of the Bishop of Bangor

The funeral of the Rt Rev Anthony Crockett will take place at Bangor Cathedral on Monday, July 7.

There will be a Requiem Mass at 10.30am followed by the funeral service at 2pm. The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, will preside at the Mass and officiate at the funeral, assisted by other clergy.

Archbishop of York calls for Civil Rights

Dr. John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York, is calling for the establishment of a new civil rights movement in Britain to bring about the restoration of Zimbabwe.

The Archbishop made his call as he announced a special service for the people of Zimbabwe to take place at midday on Friday July 11 at St. Margaret’s Church in Westminster.

Archbishop of Canterbury welcomes release of pastor from five-year detention

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams has welcomed the release of a pastor who had been detained for five years without charge or trial in Equatorial Guinea.

Protestant pastor Reverend Bienvenido Samba Momesori was released on 11 June after being granted a pardon by the country's President Obiang on his 66th birthday.

Bishops welcomed from across the world

Worshippers from across south-east Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will welcome bishops from across the globe next month (July).

Eleven Anglican bishops and their spouses from Africa and the USA will spend five nights in the Portsmouth diocese before heading for the Lambeth Conference in Canterbury.

Anti-gun crime organisations from across the UK paid tribute to Pat Regan, the mother and anti-violence campaigner, whose funeral took place last week.

Organisations who worked closely with Pat Regan included Bringing Hope, Mothers Against Violence Manchester & Redcar, Families for Peace, Don’t Trigger and MAMA (Mothers Against Murder and Aggression).

Episcopal Church of the Sudan elects two new bishops of Renk and Ibba

The Episcopal Church of the Sudan (ECS) elected (June 12) two new diocesan bishops - Rev. Joseph Garang Atem was elected as the next Bishop of the Diocese of Renk in Upper Nile, whilst Rev. Wilson Kamani was elected as the next Bishop of the Diocese of Ibba in Western Equatoria.

Major debates concerning the Church’s ministry, relationships with other Churches, and wider society will be on the agenda at the General Synod when it meets at York University from the afternoon of Friday July 4 to lunchtime on Tuesday July 8. This month was World Environment Day and the theme for the current year is ‘Kick the Habit: Towards a Low Carbon Economy’. Modern lifestyles need to be supported by economic activities that release large quantities of carbon into the atmosphere, and this leads to unfavourable climate changes such as global warming, erratic weather patterns, increasingly frequent and severe storms and other natural disasters. Such adverse changes can be slowed down by corrective action but not stopped or reversed.

Church Leaders call for worshippers to make 'Time for God's Creation'

Church leaders have called upon Christians throughout England to use the period from 1st September until 4th October as an opportunity to put the environment at the heart of their worship. The ‘Time For God’s Creation’ initiative, which would run annually, follows a resolution made at the Third European Ecumenical Assembly in 2007, attended by representatives of Europe’s Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican and Protestant churches, that the period “be dedicated to prayer for the protection of Creation and the promotion of sustainable lifestyles that reverse our contribution to climate change.”
